How to Brush Your Dog's Teeth with Crusoe the Dachshund

How to Brush Your Dog's Teeth with Crusoe the Dachshund Brushing your dog's teeth is an important and beneficial activity you can do for your dog's overall health and lifespan. Oral health has been linked to heart health, so you are not only protecting their teeth and gums, but also improving overall health.

If you don't brush your dog's teeth everyday, there's almost no point. Think as a human if you only brushed your teeth once a week. It wouldn't really do anything. So everyday - even twice a day is a must. HOWEVER, brushing your dog's teeth does not negate the need for vet cleanings, but it may reduce how often you need to do them. Brushing your dog's teeth will not get under the gums or between the teeth, which also need to be cleaned even if the teeth themselves are kept very clean.

To brush your dog's teeth, hold the dog between your legs while sitting laid back on a couch or bed, with your knees up. This reduces their range of motion and helps keep their head toward you. Pry open their mouth and keep one finger in their mouth, either pinning down the tongue, pushing it to the side, or using your finger as a crossbar to keep their mouth open. Also have a finger on top of their snout and below their chin helps stop them from kicking their head back.
Brush back and forth, side to side, and in circles. You can also place bristles on tooth near gum line and just vibrate, move in a small circle to get a little bit between the teeth and perhaps under the gum a little.

Make sure your brush every side of every tooth! Happy brushing with your dog!
