In a rare encounter with Asabe Afrika TV a night after he returned from a farewell Service organized in honor of the late Kalabari born Nigerian elder statesman, High Chief (Dr.) Olu Benson Lulu Briggs by His Royal Majesty, Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of Ashanti, Ghana, High Chief Abiola Ogundokun paid a hearty tribute to the late oil magnate.
O.B. Lulu Briggs passed away 7 months after his 88th birthday of May 22nd, 2018.
He died in Accra on Thursday December 27th, 2018.
He was celebrated in Accra in March when a spectacular event was put together by his long standing associate and very good friend, His Royal Majesty, Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of Ashanti, to honour and bid him good bye.
At the event, encomiums and tears flowed freely as friends, family and well wishers from various nationalities across the globe recalled the impact the late High Chief (Dr.) O. B. Lulu Briggs had in their lives.
The King of Ashanti who invited his international and local friends to honor, in his own words, "my friend in whom I am well pleased", noted in his welcome remark to invited guests at the occasion that, ”death had robbed him of a great friend, brother and compatriot", hence, his decision to accord the late High Chief (Dr.) O. B. Lulu Briggs the greatest honour of celebrating him in the East Legon province of Ghana, a part of which the king hold forte.
The farewell took place at The Chapel, Transition Place, in Haatso, Accra at about 11:25 am with families, friends, well wishers, top government functionaries from various countries, diplomatic corps and foremost traditional rulers from Nigeria and Ghana in attendance.
Speaking with Asabe Afrika TV inside his Lagos mansion, High Chief Ogundokun, the Oban Nla of Iwo Kingdom 'Jagun P'ote of the Source (Ile-Ife) gave an insightful tribute that captures the essence of Lulu Briggs' phenomenon in Nigeria and across the world.
